It’s pretty straight forward.

When all else fails, download a fresh copy of the WordPress (top right on this page) to your computer, and use that to copy up. Access your server via SFTP or FTP, or a file manager in your hosting account’s control panel (consult your hosting provider’s documentation for specifics on these), and delete then replace the wp-admin and wp-includes folders on your server (NOTE: do not delete the wp-content directory or your wp-config.php file). Read the Manual Update directions first.
BACKUP: If you haven’t already done, always backup everything (including your database) before doing any actions, just in case something really goes wrong. You can never have enough backups! See https://wordpress.org/support/article/wordpress-backups/

Despite following the usual update process, the update seems to either fail or get stuck. We’ve tried disabling plugins and switching to the default theme, but the issue persists. We also checked the PHP version and memory limits, but everything appears to be in order. Could anyone provide guidance on troubleshooting this update issue? Any suggestions on potential conflicts or server-side configurations would be greatly appreciated.

The entry in the hosts file is only known to the local device. You have various options for this:

  • Add this entry to the hosts file on every device in your network. You will then be able to access the website on each of these devices.
  • Or add the DNS resolution in your router so that it distributes the information about which IP should be called when the domain is called to all devices in your network. See the manual for this.
  • Or install a DNS server in your network that takes over the DNS resolution for you.

If you want to make the website accessible on the Internet, this would be possible via so-called DynDNS services. Here too, you should first check your router’s manual and, if necessary, consult your Internet service provider.

None of these options have anything to do with WordPress itself. This is all about configuring the technology you use to host the website on your network. WordPress cannot help you with this in any way. If you need further support, find someone who can help you with the network configuration.

In conclusion: if you want to run a WordPress website at all, you don’t have to go to all this effort. Look for a host on the Internet where you can store the website. They will do all the configuration for you. This is how most people who want to use WordPress for their website proceed.

It is required so that WordPress can access the database via PHP.

You would need to contact your hosting support for a solution. They should install and activate the component there.
