WordPress Login missing

I have just installed WordPress locally on my PC. when I finished installing, I got the WordPress login box and was able login to the package. I have tried to use the program today and if I goto Localhost/sitename I get a sample page with no Dashboard with a sample page which is not editable. I think that when I type the sitename (http://localhost/sitename) it should show the login screen.

I have created a Virtualhost with the sitename would this be why it fails?

Help would be appreciated as I am relatively new to WordPress
